You all chose Greece for my homestay for July, but we didn’t decide where. While doing my research, I found that Greece isn’t cheap. Well, MOST of Greece isn’t cheap. Since I am on a limited budget, I found two places where I could afford to live. I fully intend to have some awesome weekend trips to the different islands, but living in Mykonos isn’t in the cards. For now. So the choices are Athens and Patras. Where should we go?
Choice 1: Athens, Greece
Athens is obviously probably the most famous city in Greece. The capital city of this beautiful country obviously has much to see. The Acropolis, Temple of Zeus, and countless other Greecian ruins surround this booming metropolis. One of my favorite travel blogs is Earth Trekkers, and they have put together an awesome list of things to see if you want to read more about it HERE.
But the other benefit of living in Athens is it’s pretty central to everything. It has easy access to the islands and there is plenty to see and do. I already found a tiny house (if it’s not already gone by the end of the vote) to live in…AND it comes with a bike! I would love to hop on my GoPro and give you a biking tour through Athens.
There are, of course, some disadvantages. It’s summer, and people have been cooped up for the past year. And with Greece being one of the few countries open to tourists right now, it’s going to be extremely busy. This doesn’t bother me because I lived in NYC for years and am used to the crowds. It’s also so well known that some of you may not be interested in this option and want something a little off the beaten path. While I would love to spend a month in Athens and escape to the Greek Islands, option two is also cool.
Choice 2: Patras, Greece

You may not have heard of Patras before (I hadn’t till doing research), but it’s actually the third-largest city in Greece. It looks like a really cool city. It’s a port city, so it’s right by the sea. The city appears to be a little more modern, with a splash of old-school Greece. But looking at other travel blogger’s sites, it’s not as explored.
This, for me, is an interesting spot to stop because I don’t know much about it. I’m sure the food is just as good as in Athens, and because it’s not as touristy probably more authentic. This is a spot that might be interesting for you to all see because it’s not as known. There’s something cool about seeing the unknown.
But the negatives are also there. Because it’s so far west, the chances to see the islands aren’t as great. I mean, I will totally still give you all the options to see the Greek islands, but it won’t be a focus point. But, maybe you don’t want to see that part and want me to explore the other parts of Greece that you haven’t seen. But, like I always say, it’s not just my adventure, but OUR adventure.
So, Where Should We Go Next?
Do you want to explore the capital city of Athens and the beautiful Greek islands? Or do you want to see a part of Greece that many people don’t explore in Patras? Vote below, and let me know. I’m excited to see where you all send me next. The vote ends 6/13!

Patrias I love how blue the water is. It will be hot so you could just hop in the water to cool down. You could take a weekend trip to Athens. I wish I was there.

How exciting! Did you reach out to John Tsfoyanis? I think he still has a place in Greece…maybe he could hook you up.
Johnny
I didn’t know he had a place. I don’t have his info though.
