This week’s Live Like a Local, we’re headed to Mödling, Austria, with tattoo and travel blogger Jenson. Austria has always been on the top of my list of places I want to visit. And today, Jenson is bringing us to a part of Austria that isn’t as well known as their capital city, Vienna. So, sit back, relax, and live like a local in Mödling, Austria, with Jenson.
Tell Us A Little About Yourself:
My name is Jenson and I am a Canadian that has been travelling all over the world for the last 10 years. I am the founder and main blogger of Nomadic Inscriptions, a travel and tattoo website focusing on tattoos from around the world and the places they come from. The main goals for us are visiting every country and getting culturally relevant and important tattoos in at least half.
Where Are You From?
I currently live in Mödling, Austria
What Is A Must See So People Can Live Like A Local In Mödling, Austria
Taking a walk around the pedestrian area in downtown Mödling is a must. It has a very rustic old European feel to it. You are even able to walk up to a really old church that is marked up from when the Turks attacked a few centuries back.
What Is A Place People Could Skip When Visiting?
.Not skip so much as try to compress Vienna into just a portion of your trip. Yeah, there is some cool stuff there, but most people miss the surrounding towns. There is some crazy interesting history around here.
What Is Your Favorite Restaurant So People Can Taste What It’s Like To Live Like A Local In Mödling?
Hands down the Heurigers. They are little restaurants that are owned by people who run local vineyards. So you get to taste some really nice local wines while eating traditional food. They are everywhere in small towns around Vienna.
Any Advice For Those Visiting For The First Time?
Seriously take some time to venture off into the lesser-visited areas. There’s a wild boar park out past Hinterbrühl that most people will never find. Not to mention some astounding historical monuments around that you wouldn’t know about unless you were able to stumble upon them.
What Are Some Lesser Known Places To Help People Live Like A Local in Mödling?
I could list hundreds. Anywhere from the aforementioned wild boar park to seegrotte an underground cave system to an old war bunker to a castle to “Ozean” the local swimming lake. There is so much once you leave Vienna that most people just miss.
What Is Something People Might Know About Where You Are From?
Beethoven spent a lot of time in the area around Mödling so there are lots of things named after him.
Any Last Words For Travelers?
For sure. Go see more. Avoid tourist traps as most of them you can basically see an entire virtual tour of almost all of them from people posting online. Look for the things few others see to get your own “wow” moments.
