As I make my way down to Croatia, I wanted to stop in Austria for a little fun-filled adventure to take you all on with me. And I found two great cities that I really think you will enjoy seeing. Vienna and Salzburg are two of many of Austria’s beautiful cities, filled with Baroque architecture, art, and history. There’s no denying that these places are perfect for a little getaway, but which one will you choose, Vienna or Salzburg?
Vienna
Probably the most famous of the cities in Austria, this capital city is enriched in history and art. Once the home of composers like Mozart and Beethoven, Vienna continues to be a classical music lovers oasis. You can even enjoy a live concert in Mozart’s home, where they play some of his most famous pieces. It’s also the background to one of my favorite travel movies “Before Sunrise.”
With places like Schonbrunn Palace, Hofburg Palace, and Saint Stephens Cathedral there will be plenty of opportunities to bring you along with to these classic sites. But there are many other adventures you can send me on here as well. The world’s oldest zoo, or Prater Amusement Park if you want to hear about something a little more on the “fun” side.
Of course, Austria also has a history with World War Two that we can’t ignore. The Mauthausen Memorial is a concentration camp that parts still stand to this day. I think it’s important that we see the beauty of a city when traveling and the pain it went through. Is it uncomfortable? Yes. But it’s a part of history we can’t forget. So, if you send me to Vienna, this will be a place I will be visiting without a vote.
Salzburg
The hills are alive, with the sound of music! That’s right. Salzburg is home to some of the most famous spots in the classic Sound of Music. And no big surprise, it’s overlooked by the Eastern Alps. If you love this movie as much as I do, this might be the place you want to see.
But Salzburg has more to offer than the sound of music. Including Mozart’s childhood home, St. Peter’s Abbey, and Salzburg Fortress, which are just a few of the hotspots in this fantastic city. And for the kid inside, they do have the Toy Museum or you can enjoy a show at the Marionetten Theater. And because it is at the foot of the Alps, there is even the opportunity to go on some amazing hikes.
Salzburg is a UNESCO world heritage site, so the preserved streets of Old Town are not to be missed. With beautiful gardens, amazing views of the alps, and spectacular architecture, perhaps this is the place you will send me next. Plus, Julie Andrews hung out here for a bit, so it can’t be that bad.
Vienna Or Salzburg?
So, where do you want to head next? Do you want to see Vienna with its rich art and history? Or do you want to see Salzburg and its mountainous landscapes and the home of “The Sound of Music”? Vote below and let me know. Because it’s not just my adventure, it’s our adventure.

I think you should go to Vienna. The concentration camp would be something you will never forget. I think you’re right, we have a responsibility to face the unfortunate truths of this world. Bless those who were at this camp and all the others.
